Roger Road Pedestrian Safety and Walkability || Estimated Completion Early 2025

The Roger Road project adds sidewalk, street crossings, street lighting, and landscaping along a 1.5 mile stretch of Roger Road in Tucson, Arizona. With team members at Wheat Design Group, Alex designed landscaping along the new sidewalks to address the human-thermal comfort of pedestrians moving through this desert urban corridor. Several large vacant medians were reconceptualized into linear park space, which will include green stormwater infrastructure, concrete seating and play elements, and public art.

Prior to design development, Alex coordinated with local partners to organize and host a pop-up event in one of the medians on Roger Road. The public was invited to experience an intentionally designed destination in an otherwise forgotten space. Project feedback was collected at this “quick build” project and at subsequent public meetings.

Alex was also a member of the Roger Road Public Art Committee. The committee met regularly over the course of two years to select a public artist and coordinate the artwork concept and final design with the artist, surrounding neighborhoods, and design team.
