for me it’s all about community livability
I see a need to bring more happiness into the public realm. This is why I practice landscape architecture. Thoughtful design can improve the shared spaces in which we live so that it’s enjoyable to ride a bike home from work, simple to meet up with friends at a park, comfortable to sit outside for coffee, or safe to walk your kids to school. And while our outdoor spaces give us the chance to build community, we also have the opportunity to integrate the most time-tested landscape functions of nature. Creating a symbiotic relationship between the built and natural environment is at the forefront of my design ethos.
The majority of my experience is in public works ranging from large scale municipal park master plans to neighborhood scale pocket parks. Green infrastructure and complete streets are some of my favorite approaches to design. I am especially interested in the public outreach process and how we can reframe our roles as “designers” to “enablers” of community-driven placemaking.
i fell in love with maps first
I have also practiced geographic information systems (GIS) and cartography for over fifteen years. I love getting lost in a good dataset. From the technical side of spatial datasets and data modeling, to the storytelling side of cartography and graphic design, I enjoy it all. I believe maps are one of the most powerful means to communicate spatial relationships.
My undergraduate studies focused on International Affairs and Geography at The George Washington University in Washington, DC (2010). In Washington I interned on Capitol Hill, worked at National Geographic and The World Bank, and eventually found my way into an interesting community of geospatial professionals. I developed a niche doing GIS and cartography and moved to New Orleans in 2012 where I consulted for a variety of clients including authors, non-profits, UXO analysts, humanitarian organizations, and educators, among others.
I moved to Tucson, Arizona in 2014 to pursue my Master in Landscape Architecture at the University of Arizona (UA) and became a Licensed Landscape Architect in 2020. Since then I have been working on public and private landscape projects, teaching landscape architecture at UA, and continuing my work in GIS and cartography.
